baby food

it's that time of life again (in a good way)... once upon a time i had a brother-in-law make fun of people who made their own baby food... no names mentioned here. but, once i realized that sophie was eating up (quite literally) a large fraction of our grocery budget every month i decided to do it once again. make my own baby food. i did it with jack and will do it for sophie and probably every other child we have. hey, it's healthier, much cheaper, and they get a bigger variety. plus it makes me feel like a domestic housewife which i kind of like. so here's my first attempt at it this go around.
the trays quickly multiplied and i had to rearrange the entire freezer to fit them all in.
in the end - a gallon size bag full of yummy pears.
i purchased this book when jack started solids and it was such a huge help. it has everything you'd ever need to know about making your own food and what you can/can't feed your baby, plus some. i would highly recommend it to anyone.

very cool. I made a couple things for Rowan- nothing fancy- just some carrots and apples. He is really into feeding himself, so at this point I am lucky to get a bite or two down the kid before he tries to rip the spoon out of my hands! We have been sticking to a lof of finger foods- last night he tried broccoli. good luck- sounds like Sophie is a great eater.

Thanks for the tip Joanna! We're going to try some solid foods with Michael this weekend for the first time. I'm excited to get this book!

Hmmm. I'm going to have to check it out! I don't have a food processor, though... did you use a regular blender or a food processor? Just curious!

That's super cool! So I am wondering what flavor is in the pictures because it looks like caramel and if that's the case, can I have some baby food????

You've whipped out the ice trays! That book really is great. Thanks again for lending it to me when Sam was younger.
